Some of my favourite images to look at include long exposures taken at night, there’s something visually appealing about seeing the stars move across the sky.
Shooting night photography images is something that I have rarely tried myself. That has to change, and that’s where this challenge comes in.
I have photographed the moon several times on previous occasions, and so for this challenge I need to mix it up a little. I’m not looking for a simple close up of the full moon, it must be more than that… I need to think a little more creatively.
Perhaps the tail light of a passing car, or a low flying aeroplane passing overhead? Whatever it turns out to be, this challenge is around capturing artificial light in motion.
Having never taken a single star-trail shot before, I think the challenge of capturing 5 of them in a year, each different and with its own merit is a hard challenge. It’s not a case of spending one night out and about with the camera and getting 5 copies of the same shot, all with differing lengths of exposure. This challenge (as with so many of them in the 2012 set) is about thinking creatively, about finding a new way to do something.
